Neil Sedaka's single "Sunny" (Sedaka - Greenfield) backed with "She'll never be you" (Sedaka - Greenfield) released in Japan in 1964 (Victor - SS-1482) sports on its sleeve a photo of him between his RCA colleagues Little Peggy March (on his right) and Rita Pavone (on his left). They do not sing in the recordings.

Rita Pavone appears alongside Teddy Reno in the picture of Teddy Reno's 1969's single "Schenk Deiner Frau doch hin und wieder rote Rosen" (Raschek - Dieter) / "Tanz diesen Tanz mit mir" (Charly Niessen) (Polydor - 53 170). One might think Rita sings a duet with her husband but nothing of the sort is true. Both sides of the 45 rpm single are strictly a Teddy Reno recording only.

In 1970, Rita Pavone recorded "Maria Luisa" in Italian and also different versions in Spanish, Portuguese, English and French. The latter has never been released. The English version was not released in vinyl or some other format but it has surfaced at Youtube in December 2020. Here's the English lyrics of:

MARIA LUISA (English version)
(Tommaso - G. De Angelis)

Woh! Maria, Maria Luisa walks down a street in Rome / all the fellows are shouting: "Can we walk with you, Maria, please? / Can I take you to a movie or maybe somewhere nice! / Can't you understand that youll'be our idea of paradise"

Hey! Maria, Maria Luisa has always been the one to break everybody's heart / And it seems she's got it to an art. / There's not a man who couldn't see you, Maria, as his wife / not a man who wouldn't worship his Maria all his life

But they know that Maria has found somebody / and she has only got her eyes for him / and they know they could never win / her love's stronger than it's ever been

They know that all they can do is watch her / and that is what they do just every day / they always see her walking by and say / "Maria, we love you, love you anyway"

Maria, Maria Luisa walks down a street in Rome / all the fellows are shouting: "Can we talk with you, Maria, please? / Can we tell you that we love you? I think of you an you alone / and if this guy should ever leave you, you won't be lonely when you're in Rome

But they know that Maria has found somebody / and she has only got her eyes for him / and they know they could never win / her love's stronger than it's ever been

They know that all they can do is watch her / and that is what they do just every day / they always see her walking by and say / "Maria, we love you, love you anyway". Hoooh...

CINZANO SODA

Em 1967, o single promocional "Cin, cin c'innamoriamo"/"Per una come me", tem no selo do disco o logotipo do fabricante.

As Rita Pavone became a national personality in early 1963, she was approached by ice-cream brand Gelati Algida to advertise their product on commercials inserted on RAI-TV. Four years later, in 1967, CINZANO SODA released a Rita Pavone 45 rpm single featuring "Cin, cin c'innamoriamo" especially written as a song-commercial backed with "Per una come me". In 1968, Rita was back praising Cinzano Soda on colourful ads at illustrated magazines.

EL MOSQUITO - FORTÍSIMO - TÚ ERES ANTIPÁTICO

Ao gravar a trilha sonora do filme 'RITA LA ZANZARA' (1966), Rita Pavone também gravou em espanhol três canções do filme: "El mosquito" (La zanzara), "Fortísimo" (Fortissimo) e "Tú eres antipático" (Quanto sei antipatico), inéditas em disco. Como curiosidade, os textos destas canções:

As Rita Pavone recorded the sound-track of 'RITA LA ZANZARA' (1966) she also recorded the three main themes of the movie in Spanish: "La zanzara" became "El mosquito", "Fortissimo" turned into "Fortísimo" and "Quanto sei antipatico" morphed into "Tú eres antipático". As a curiosity item, we publish the lyrics of those three songs which were never released officially:

EL MOSQUITO (La zanzara)
(Wertmüller - Gaspari - Marrocchi - Lanati)

Ay!

No, no! / No me gusta que me trates mal, yeh, yeh!

SORRISI E CANZONI TV (nº 47, 21-27.11.1965) Italian magazine cover

Rita Pavone's post at her Facebook's Small Wonder page on 13 February 2022, recalls a certain incident which happened to her in November 1965:

(In that photo on the cover of 'Sorrisi e Canzoni TV' in which I don a weird red headwear, on closer examination, you'll see my under lip is swollen. Actually the night before while I was driving home after a long and excruciating hard day's work whether performing on TV or recording at the studio, I was getting near Rome's Beltway (Raccordo Anulare di Roma) when I suddenly slept at the helm of my MG Midget. I hit the back of the car ahead and struck my face on the steering wheel. I had a photo session appointment for the next day and I went ahead with it anyway. Photographers then didn't have many filters).

RITA PAVONE NO FESTIVAL DE SAN REMO

Rita Pavone cantando "Zucchero" (1969)

Rita Pavone cantando "Niente (Resilienza 74)" (2020)

Rita Pavone singing "Niente (Resilienza 74)" (2020)

Rita Pavone has been in competition at the ilustrious 'San Remo Festivalfour times: with "Zucchero" in 1969, which she placed at #13; "Ahi, ahi ragazzo" in 1970, at #16 (not a finalist); "Amici mai" in 1972, at #15 (not a finalist) and after a hiatus of 48 years, Rita presented "Niente (Resilienza 74)" in 2020, which got to #17 and was not included among the finalists.

In 1969, at the Festival, Rita thought initially to sing "Baci, baci, baci" but ended up opting for "Zucchero". In 1970, Rita ascribes to bad luck when she sang "Ahi, ahi ragazzo" not having been classified among the top, at Festival. She says the fact of her losing the grip on the microphone and its falling on the floor harmed her chances. In 1976, Rita was invited to sing "Sono proprio uno schianto" and "E... zitto zitto" but out of the competition. In 2005, Rita appeared at the Festival singing "Come noi nessuno al mondo" alongside singer-songwriter Toto Cutugno (1943-2023) and Annalisa Minetti. In 2020, Rita sang "1950" in a duet with Amedeo Minghi.

Note: In 2017, at San Remo's Casino's Roof Garden, on 6 February, Rita was awarded I Numeri Uno-Città di San Remo trophy for her work in promoting Italian music abroad through the years and for her own entries at past San Remo competitions. At the closing of the Festival, on 11 February, Rita was awarded yet Premio alla Carriera for the combined 55 years of her successful musical career and she sang "Cuore". On days 7, 8 and 9 February, Rita was part of Giuria di Qualità (the jury that counts votes for the best song, received by phone, journalists and members of the selecting committee). The 'Festival di San Remo 2017' ran from 7 to 11 February. The '70th Festival di Sanremo' happened from 4 to 8 February 2020. Rita presented "Niente (Resilienza 74)" on the opening day. On the 6, there was a special presentation of duets with songs not in competition, among the competitors and the guest singers. On the 7, all twenty four competitors sang their songs again for a jury made up of the general media (TV, radio and the Internet). On the 8, the competitors repeated their performances and were judged by a special jury plus a popular jury made up by TV watchers.

COME NOI NESSUNO AL MONDO
(Salvatore Cutugno)

Io e noi, cambio pelle, cambio vita

Io e noi, io e te, cambio pelle, cambio vita
Io e te, io e te mi risveglio e tu ci sei!

"REMEMBER ME" (Um sonho não realizado)

A:
1. Heart (Cuore)
2. I wish you well
3. At my age (Alla mia età)
4. The tables are turned (Non c'è un po' di pentimento)
5. Until you are gone
6. I know how it feels
7. (I'm on) The wrong side of love
8. Now that you are gone (Che m'importa del mondo)

B:
1. Get a hold of yourself
2. I'll wait and wait
3. How low is low
4. Maria Luisa
5. He's a leader in my eyes (Ahi ahi ragazzo)
6. FBI girl (La chica del FBI)
7. My beautiful song
8. Remember me

Até então, além de "Remember me" (1964) do LP "RITA PAVONE (THE INTERNATIONAL TEEN-AGE SANSATION)", haviam sido lançadas "I'll wait and wait" e "How low is low" (1964) no LP "SMALL WONDER".

"Now that you're gone" (1963) (versão de "Che m'importa del mondo"), apenas fez parte da trilha sonora do filme 'The Empty Canvas' ('La Noia' [1963]), para os públicos britânico e norte-americano.

"Heart" (1963) (versão de "Cuore") foi lançada em 2001, no CD duplo italiano "I MITICI 45 - RITA PAVONE" (RCA Italiana - BMG - 74321812432 [2]).

Mais recentemente (2014), em formato digital, a Sony Music lançou no YouTube "At my age" (versão de "Alla mia età"), "The tables are turned" (versão de "Non c'è un po' di pentimento"), "The wrong side of love" e "Get a hold of yourself", todas de 1964.

Ainda continuam inéditas "I wish you well", "Until you were gone" e "I know how it feels" (1964); "Maria Luisa" (versão da homônima original em italiano) e "He's a leader in my eyes" (1970); "FBI girl" (1973) (versão de "La chica del FBI") e "My beautiful song" (sem informações).

Porém, não passou de um sonho...

"REMEMBER ME" (An elusive fan dream)

After Rita Pavone toured Brazil in late 1987, some members of the Brazilian R.P. Fan Club decided to lobby RCA Victor to produce an album of 8 English-language songs Rita had recorded in New York in January and April 1964. Eight more songs - also recorded in English at different times - would fill up the album.

A:
1. Heart (Cuore)
2. I wish you well
3. At my age (Alla mia età)
4. The tables are turned (Non c'è un po' di pentimento)
5. Until you are gone
6. I know how it feels
7. (I'm on) The wrong side of love
8. Now that you are gone (Che m'importa del mondo)

B:
1. Get a hold of yourself
2. I'll wait and wait
3. How low is low
4. Maria Luisa
5. He's a leader in my eyes (Ahi ahi ragazzo)
6. FBI girl (La chica del FBI)
7. My beautiful song
8. Remember me

Most songs were never released until then, except the title-song "Remember me" (1st track on "RITA PAVONE [THE INTERNATIONAL TEEN-AGE SENSATION]" 1964 album) plus "I'll wait and wait" and "How low is low" which appeared on the album "SMALL WONDER" released in the USA in December 1964.

Mind you that "At my age" and "Heart" were the oldest tracks having been recorded in May 1963, at Via Tiburtina km 12, in Rome, using the same play-backs of "Alla mia età" and "Cuore", arranged by Argentine conductor Luis Enríquez (1933-2017). This particular cut of "Heart" would only be released in Italy in 2001, on a double-CD called "I MITICI 45 - RITA PAVONE" (RCA Italiana - BMG - 74321812432 [2]).

"Now that you're gone", was recorded in Rome in September 1963, using the same play-back Luis Enríquez wrote for "Che m'importa del mondo". It opened Damiano Damiani's (1922-2013) movie 'The Empty Canvas' ('La Noia' [1963]) for British and American audiences. It has never been released on disc or digital format yet.

In 2014, Sony Music decided to release 4 old recordings in digital format: "At my age" ("Alla mia età" in English, recorded in May 1963, in Rome); "The tables are turned" ("Non c'è un po' di pentimento" in English, recorded in September 1963, in Rome); "The wrong side of love" and "Get a hold of yourself" (recorded at the RCA Studio in New York, in 1964).

"I wish you well", "Until you were gone" and "I know how it feels" (all recorded in New York, in 1964) have not been released in any format yet.

"Maria Luisa", is a cover of an Italian song recorded in 1970; "He's a leader in my eyes", a cover of "Ahi ahi ragazzo" recorded for San Remo Festival 1970; "FBI girl", a cover of "La chica del FBI" recorded in 1973 and "My beautiful song" (not much information about this particular track) have not been released in any shape or form.

Unfortunately, the local RCA never took the fans' dream seriously so it never came true.

Inspirada na comédia de William Shakespeare (1564-1616) 'The Taming of the Shrew' (A Megera Domada), o Teatro Nuovo di Verona (Itália), em março de 1987, apresentou a comédia musical 'Kiss me, Kate', de Samuel (1899-1971) e Bella Spewack (1899-1990), com letras e músicas de Cole Porter (1891-1964), vertidas para o italiano. Nos principais papeis Rita Pavone, Teddy Reno, Gloria Paul e Luigi Casavola. Rita e Teddy cantam: "Strano ma intenso" (So in love), "Wunderbar" e "Da quest'oggi in poi" (From this moment on).

"Ahi, ahi ragazzo" was Rita Pavone's entry in San Remo 1970. She also recorded it in Spanish as "Ay, muchacho" and Portuguese as "Ai, ai, ai, rapaz". The Portuguese version has never been released. It has surfaced at YouTube and here's the lyrics and audio of such a curiosity.

AI, AI, AI, RAPAZ (Ahi, ahi ragazzo)
(Migliacci - Napolitano)

Me consolará algum outro alguém, me fará outra vez sorrir

"Try it and see" foi composta por Andrew Lloyd Webber e Tim Rice, para representar o Reino Unido no festival 'Eurovision', de 1969, a ser defendida pela cantora Lulu (Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie). A comissão britânica mudou de ideia e enviou "Boom bang-a-bang". Rita Pavone gravou "Try it and see" (lado B de "Till tomorrow" [Mayer - Buschor - Mason]), que foi lançada na Alemanha, Estados Unidos, Sérvia (ex-Yugoslávia), África do Sul, Portugal, além do Reino Unido. Em 1970, "Try it and see", com nova letra de Tim Rice tornou-se "King Herod's song", uma das principais árias da ópera-rock 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (1971), de Webber e Rice.

"Try it and see" was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice as proposed UK entry into the 1969 'Eurovision Song Contest' - to be sung by Lulu (Marie McDonald McLaughlin Lawrie), who endend up singing "Boom bang-a-bang" instead. Rita Pavone recorded "Try it and see" as a B-side for "Till tomorrow" (Mayer - Buschor - Mason) in mid-1969. More than a year later, in September 1970, Webber and Rice released their much-expected 'Jesus Christ Superstar' (1971) rock-opera album in which "Try it and see" lyrics were re-written as "King Herod's song".

Vamba's 'Il Giornalino di Gian Burrasca' was published in Brazil as 'O DIÁRIO DE GIAN BURRASCA' in 2012 by Autêntica Editora (www.autenticaeditora.com.br). Translated to Portuguese by Reginaldo Francisco who kept the original zest of Luigi Bertelli's (1858-1920) (Vamba's real name) enfant terrible's adventures and mischief.

'Il Giornalino di Gian Burrasca' was first published in 1907, soon becoming a classic of the Italian fiction. It was made into a popular TV series by RAI in 1964 which was aired in 8 instalments from 19 December 1964 through to 6 February 1965. At 19 year-old Rita Pavone played the young rascal with an incredible panache.

RICORDI" (Dischi Ricordi - BMG - OROSCD 43).
The release of Rita Pavone's "Tu, cuore mio" which was 'Partitissima' (RAI TV [1967/68]) main theme was suddenly recalled by Dischi Ricordi due to Rita's having lost the competion. It was released only in Spain (in 1968) as B-side of "Pippo non lo sa" (PHILIPS - 360 165 PF). The beautiful recording of "Tu, cuore mio" was released in Italy 28 years later, in 1995, as part of the CD "RITA PAVONE... RICORDI" (Dischi Ricordi - BMG - OROSCD 43).

RITA PAVONE: 'ALTA PRESSIONE' (1962) E 'STUDIO UNO' (1962/1963)

'ALTA PRESSIONE'

'STUDIO UNO' projeta definitivamente Rita Pavone, no mundo artístico.

RITA PAVONE IN 'ALTA PRESSIONE' (1962) AND 'STUDIO UNO' (1962/1963)

'ALTA PRESSIONE'

On 23 September 1962, Rita Pavone was pretty lucky enough to have been included in the second instalment of 'ALTA PRESSIONE' (High Pressure), a Sunday night variety show intended for the Italian young-set. Rita had just won a talent contest on 1st September and this was her first exposure on national TV. Rita sang "La partita di pallone" her very first release on RCA Italiana which would go right up to the top of the charts soon after.

'STUDIO UNO'

'STUDIO UNO' - the very best of Italian variety - usually ran from late December into the new year. Mina would be the compere but her high profile pregnancy she would not be able to make it as the compere as she had done in 1961. 'STUDIO UNO's producer Antonello Falqui (1925-2019) gambled his career away when he proposed Rita Pavone - the girl who had been at the last 'ALTA PRESSIONE' programme - as a substitute for Mina and the gamble paid off.

Starting 3 days before Christmas 1962 and ending in mid-March 1963, 'STUDIO UNO's 12 Saturday night instalments were a big success and Rita Pavone became a national celebrity. Here are the dates Rita Pavone appeared at 'STUDIO UNO' and what songs she sang, usually accompanied by a group of dancers-singer called I Collettoni. All songs were pre-recorded at RCA Italiana studios at Via Tiburtina km. 12 and then presented at the show. Dino Verde (1922-2004)  was 'STUDIO UNO's writer and Bruno Canfora (1924-2017) its musical arranger and conductor.

22 DEC 1962: "Che fifa", "Amore twist"
29 DEC 1962: "Come te non c'è nessuno"
05 JAN 1963: "La partita di pallone"
12 JAN 1963: "Alla mia età"
19 JAN 1963: "Clementine chérie"
02 FEB 1963: "Sul cucuzzolo"
09 FEB 1963: "Il ballo del mattone"
16 FEB 1963: "La commessa"
23 FEB 1963: "T'ho conosciuto"
02 MAR 1963: "Pel di carota"
09 MAR 1963: "Le lentiggini"

Notes:
1-"Che fifa", "Il ballo del mattone", "Pel di carota", "Le lentiggini" and "Abbiamo 16 anni" (*) were all written by Dino Verde and Bruno Canfora.

2-As I Collettoni were only dancers, singers Gianni Morandi and Roby Ferrante (1942-1966) pre-recorded all the vignettes and the final product that were later lip-synched on the TV show.

3-All these songs, minus "Che fifa", were later released as Rita Pavone's first album in March 1963.

(*) "Abbiamo 16 anni" was a vignette-tune sung by I Collettoni that introduced all songs Rita might sing. It had different lyrics every time. When it came the time to produce the "RITA PAVONE" album, Dino Verde wrote special lyrics for the Canfora tune to make it a proper pop song and it is the album's first track.

 RITA PAVONE IN AUSTRALIA

Rita Pavone: show in Sydney (1986)

Rita Pavone had a scheduled tour to perform in Sydney and maybe Melbourne in April 1982. Posters were distributed to Italian businesses around town announcing it. The Australian tour however never took place. It was called off with no explanation of the whys and wherefores.

Rita would have performed at Marconi Club on the Saturday 10 April. Then she would sing in concert at the Apia Club on Wednesday 14 April. But that never happened.

Four years later, Rita Pavone finally made it to Oz. Rita presented her show at the Brookvale Oval in Sydney on 26 January 1986 (Sunday), Australia Day. She was backed up by her own band and her then partner singer-song-writer Laura Trentacarlini aka Laura "Blue" Carolain. On the next Friday 31 January 1986, Rita and Laura presented their show at the Apia Club an Italian night-club.

In the clip "Sul cucuzzolo" by Rita Pavone & I Collettoni presented originally in 'Studio Uno '63' the choir introduction is part of a traditional Alpine song called "Sul cappello che noi portiamo" (La penna nera). The lyrics are: "Su pei monti, su pei monti che noi saremo, coglieremo, coglieremo le stelle alpine". Then, in the instrumental break, the choir return and sing another verse: "Per portarle, per portarle alle bambine, farle pianger, farle pianger e sospirar", which unfortunately never made it into Rita Pavone’s 1st album.

Então, ele me ligou e fomos.

 RITA PAVONE and SYLVINHA

Excerpts from the book 'ANJO LILÁS - UMA HISTÓRIA DE VIDA' (Lilac Angel - A Life Story) (Editora Novo Século [2006]), by singer Sylvinha Araújo (1951-2008) (chapter RITA PAVONE):

"When I was 13 years old, an Italian "hurricane" called Rita Pavone got into the music scene which dominated me completely. She was different from all that I had known previously as a singer. She was a tom-boy on stage and a sensation everywhere. I asked my father for her records and even started learning Italian in order to understand the songs' lyrics. I bought a small Italian dictionary and tried to translate them and learn the language. Rita was a hit worldwide and influenced the teens".

(Years later, in the 1980s [1], when I already was a professional singer, I had the privilege of meeting Rita Pavone - my teen-ager idol. She came to Brazil on a tournee and performed at the old Palace in São Paulo. She and her marvelous band were very successful.

By this time I sang in commercial jingles and by sheer coincidence there were two such jingles playing on the radio which were based on Pavone's songs. One was "Datemi un martello", for Pizza Cristal and the other "Viva la polpa col pomodoro", for Cica’s Pomodoro brand.

Rita Pavone ended up hearing about those jingles and was curious to know who sang them. Waldomiro Saad, the manager who had brought Pavone to Brazil, told her he knew me and she asked him to invite me to see her show. She herself rang me up and I and my husband Eduardo (Eduardo Araújo) went to see her. At the end of the show we went out for dinner with Rita, her band and Wanderléa (Wanderléa Charlup Boere Salim), who also had seen her show.

At the Esplanada Grill restaurant I told Eduardo I would certainly have gone gaga had such a meeting happened in the 1960s. But at that moment I was a more mature person and my own success as a singer helped my stand.

Rita Pavone and I talked a lot in English and Spanish because my Italian was really bad due to my lack of practicing it. I still could understand it but hardly spoke any Italian, but even so we understood each other very well.

She told me her son Neil was also found of singing and had sung in one for her more recent recordings which she later send me over along with a few photos. I also sent her "Grita Coração" an album I had recorded for Pointer. She wrote back saying she had enjoyed it a lot).

"PASSAGGIO"
(RCA Italiana - 1974)
Fumo di legna / Pazza pupazza / Come un aquilone / Film (I'm gonna love you just a little bit more, baby) (voz: Gualtiero Di Angelis) / Io sola qui / C'è tanta musica / Passaggio (Never gonna give you up) / La casa sul fiume / Love's theme / Tutti cantano l'amore / Come al solito / Fuggire con te.

In 1974, Rita Pavone, married since 1968 and mother of two boys, records an album for RCA Italiana with a more adult slant that showed her voice in a more mature light. Mysteriously, this album has never been released. More than 20 years later it was "leaked", some Italian fans got hold of a copy of the master-tape and somehow ended being "released" in CD format with the title of "PASSAGGIO", containing 12 songs, among them, some gems:

"PASSAGGIO"
(RCA Italiana - 1974)
Fumo di legna / Pazza pupazza / Come un aquilone / Film (I'm gonna love you just a little bit more, baby) (voice: Gualtiero Di Angelis) / Io sola qui / C'è tanta musica / Passaggio (Never gonna give you up) / La casa sul fiume / Love's theme / Tutti cantano l'amore / Come al solito / Fuggire con te.

In 1975, the tracks "Fuggire da qui" and "Come un aquilone" were released as a single in Germany (M Records 16 463 AT) and Spain (Ariola 13.990 - A). In 1987, twelve years later, the songs "Pazza pupazza", "Io sola qui" and "Tutti cantano l'amore" were released as part of a custom-made album called "SPECIAL RITA" (RCA Lineatre - RFC 0001). "Film", "Passaggio" e "Love's theme" are Italian covers of Barry White songs. "Fuggire con te" has got the same melody as "Fuggire da qui", but with different lyrics. Only the first few bars are alike: "Una strada, una casa / E la stessa sedia fuori, la porta / Un bambino che gioca da sé / E non sorridi mai".

It is a real shame RCA Italiana never released the whole album because the songs are really good and Rita's rendition of them the most admirable.

Now that you're gone". Muitos fãs a conhecem como "Are stars in the heavens". Como curiosidade, a letra da canção:

The Italian film 'LA NOIA' (1963) ('THE EMPTY CANVAS') has been dubbed in English for the US market. The beautiful "Che m'importa del mondo", leitmotiv performed by Rita Pavone is also sung in English in the US version. Even though it's titled "Now that you're gone", many Pavone fans know it as "Are the stars in the heavens". Here's the lyrics for your delight:

NOW THAT YOU'RE GONE (Che m'importa del mondo)
(Franco Migliacci - Luis Enríquez)

Are the stars in the heavens / not as bright as before? / Could they be sad and blue like me / now that you're gone?

And the song birds that used to sing / won't they sing anymore? / Well, there'll be no more songs tor me / now that you're gone?

Where is the laughter / amore, amore? / We used to share / amore, amore? / Where is the joy we knew / where, oh, where?

If there are no more songs to sing / and no stars to explore / then my heart will not beat again / for ever more / not if you're gone, my love / no, never more.

Where is the laughter / we used to share? / Where is he joy we knew / where, oh, where?

And there are no more songs to sing / and no stars to explore / then my heart will not beat again / for ever more / not if you're gone, my love / no, never more / no, never more / no, never more!

In September 1962, soon after being the winner of the first 'Contest of Unknowns', RCA Italiana hires Rita Pavone and releases the single (45 giri as Italians used to call it) "La partita di pallone"/"Amore twist" (PM45 3140). In the label Rita's name is in quite a small print and RCA Victor rather than the usual RCA Italiana is shown as the name of the company. Maybe RCA didn't think much of such a release and didn't even print a photo of Rita in its sleeve but only an illustration of a foot-ball and the silhouette of a couple dancing the twist. Suprisingly though the record became very popular and Pavone became one of the most famous singer in Italy and the rest of the world.

"To Rita, Best Wishes, Elvis Presley"

Rita Pavone cherishes a special poster Elvis Presley autographed especially for her when they met in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1965 while both recorded at the same RCA Victor studios.
